The 4-4-2 Diamond Formation

21 October 2008 149 views No Comment

This formation could also be described as the 4-1-2-1-2. The two centre midfield players are staggered with one playing a defensive role and the other taking up a more offensive role. The two wide midfield players tuck in a more central position creating the diamond effect. The width from the midfield is lost so this is very often compensated for by the fullbacks pushing forward more often to create the width when needed.
